The mission of the LCSO K9 unit is to be a force multiplier for patrol operations in Lewis and Clark County and to provide a unique location tool to assist in locating illegal narcotics and apprehending dangerous subjects. We support the office in assisting with locating lost or missing persons, searches of the Detention Center and making public relations appearances.

Highly specialized and unique unit with an emphasis on training and maintaining a high level of expertise in illegal narcotics interdiction. Utilizing dual purpose K9 to deescalate or apprehend violent, uncooperative suspects. Currently one active K9 team (Villi/525) but hoping to find additional funding to enhance the capabilities of this unit.

North Patrol

The North Patrol Team is made up of three deputies who are under the supervision of a patrol sergeant. Two deputies live in the north communities, one in Lincoln and another in Augusta.  They are on-call during the days they are scheduled to work.  The third deputy travels from the Helena Valley to work his or her shift.

North deputies handle all calls in and around Lincoln, Augusta, Wolf Creek, and Craig as well as everything in-between.  North deputies primarily work alone and miles away from the nearest back-up.  Deputies usually are required to have three or more years of patrol experience before taking on one of these positions.

Animal Control

Animal control involves a combination of animal investigation, care and education, and handling. Animal control patrols public areas and responds to lose, injured, deceased, and sometimes neglected/abandoned animals. Their jobs can also lead them into the courtroom when animal laws have been violated and cases are being tried. They help control abandoned and unattended animals, investigate the mistreatment or abuse of pets, determine if an animal is dangerous, or help to remove a dangerous animal. One of the perks of this job is being able to supply personal care to the animals. This includes feeding, watering and giving the animals some one-on-one attention.
