Criminal investigations

The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division consists of a sergeant supervisor, seven detectives, and a civilian evidence technician.  Detectives in the division specialize in one area, but are cross-trained and knowledgeable in all aspects of complex criminal investigations.
The detectives are assigned as:
  1. Child Crimes/ Internet Crimes Against Children (1)
  2. Child Crimes (2)
  3. Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Detective (1)
  4. Violent/Property Crimes (2)
Additionally, Detectives have the opportunity to work with other state and federal partners and three detectives have special U.S. Marshall status when operating in their roles on the ATF Task Force, Missouri River Violent Crime Task Force, and Internet Crimes Against Children investigations.

The Criminal Investigation Division works in partnership with patrol and other divisions to bring justice and resolution to families and citizens who are victimized in Lewis and Clark County. Through their hard work and specialized training and equipment, they are improving the quality of life in Lewis and Clark County.

Evidence Technician

The evidence technician works diligently behind the scenes to ensure proper handling and logging of all property involved in a criminal case.  They work closely with detectives and the County Attorney's Office.  The evidence technician sends necessary evidence to the state crime lab for test and prepares evidence for up coming trials.  They also maintain the Sheriff's impound lot keeping a close eye on vehicles awaiting search warrants.
