Board Interview
A select few, depending on how many positions we are hiring for, will be chosen for a board interview. The selection process does not take place until the job posting has closed and all applications submitted before the closing date are accounted for. At this time, the selection process is handled through County Human Resources.
The Sheriff or his select designee will compile a board of Sheriff's Office employees to participate as interviewers, typically four to five individuals. You will be contacted by the Administrative Secretary by phone or email to discuss your interview date. (Please allow up to two (2) weeks after date of closing to check on your application status.) Once you arrive on the day of your interview, you will be provided ten (10) interview questions and given fifteen (15) minute to write down answers. The question sheet will be left with the board at the end of your interview.

Sheriff and Undersheriff interview
Once the board interviews are complete and scored, you may be called back for a second interview with the Sheriff and Undersheriff. Being selected for this phase depends on number of applicants vs number of spots to fill and where you scored in the board interview. This interview may be on the same day as your first but most likely the next day.
Again, you will be given your interview questions, ten (10) of them, before hand and provided fifteen (15) minutes to answer the questions. After interviews are complete, The Sheriff and select designees will score each candidate based on the answers given in the interview. The ultimate decision rest on the Sheriff. If picked to fill a vacancy, you will be given a conditional offer and moved into the background phase.
